Tungsten alloy armour-piercing discarding sabot is available in a range of medium to large calibres, these include 25mm, 30mm, 40mm, 76mm, 90mm, 105mm, 120mm, 125mm. Based on a nominal density of 17.5, the tungsten alloy could reaches very high tensile and yield strength values - 1,600MPa and above – while keeping a very high level of elongation and impact to meet performances up to: 2,500m/s velocity 35 length/diameter ratio 100,000G acceleration, especially for medium caliber.
The armour-piercing discarding sabot has a large proportion, high hardness, the power of wear armor and high hit rate. It uses a decanted structure, reducing air resistance and slowing down the speed attenuation of the flight part on the outer ballistic. At the same time, the small density of aluminum alloy cartridge is used to reduce the mass of the projectile, so that the initial velocity of the projectile can be improved, so as to improve the long-distance armor penetration ability.
As the length and diameter ratio of the armour-piercing discarding sabot is limited by the flight stability, its power is difficult to be further improved, and it is unable to deal with modern armor such as large normal angle thick armor and composite armor of modern tanks. Therefore, the tungsten alloy armour-piercing discarding sabot was developed and equipped on the large-bore barrel gun.
